Your on the phone with your
girlfriend, she's upset / She's going off about something that you said
/ 'Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do
"Oh my god!
Justin it was just a joke! Like, seriously, take it easy!" Britney said
raising her eyebrows at Christina. "Ok...whatever, bye," Britney hung
up. As soon as she did, Christina burst out laughing. A few seconds
later, Britney started laughing too. Christina couldn't believe that
Justin would get upset at the little joke about Justin's hair. They
both laughed until they were reduced to tears.
I'm
in the room, it's a typical Tuesday night / I'm listening to the kind
of music she doesn't like / And she'll never know your story like I do
"Hey
Brit," Christina said, picking up the phone. "How'd you know it was
me?" Britney asked after a moments hesitation. "You always call at six
on Tuesdays," Christina stated. "So what are you up to?" Britney
questioned quitely. "Just listening to some old school Whitney. Hey
Brit, are you ok? Did something else happen with Reg?" Christina asked,
concerned about her best friend. "Not really, just the same old
sexism..." Britney sighed sadly. "I'm coming over," Christina said,
hanging up before Britney's usual protests could start.
But
she wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts / She's Cheer Captain and I'm
on the bleachers / Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find /
What you're looking for has been here the whole time
Christina
has had a crush on Britney since they still had their mouse ears. But
of course it could never happen, not in this life anyway. There
might've been a chance, if it weren't for two problems. One: Britney's
not attracted to girls in any way, shape, or form. Two: they were too
socially different. Britney was the popular girl; the innocent one with
big brown eyes. Christina was the (for lack of better word) school
dyke. Unfortunately, before she came to terms with liking girls she
fucked her way through the schools football, basketball, and swim
teams. Sure, Britney dressed more provacatively, but she somehow
managed to look innocent even in her short skirts and belly tops.
Christina looked skanky wearing t-shirts and jeans. But there were
times, during football games, where she would just look over to
Britney, see her cheering her little heart out and just forget about
everything. She would let herself hope that one day, just maybe, the
stars and the moon and the earth would align and they could possibly
have a chance.
If you could see that I'm the one who understands you / Been here all along, so why can't you see? / You belong with me
"You
know Brit, I honestly just don't get you. You have these crazy mood
swings! Like, at the beginning of the day you are all happy, and around
the middle of the day you get all pissy or cry and shit...I really just
don't get you!" Justin chuckled. They were all sitting around eating
pizza after the last football game. Britney just shrugged. "Maybe she
doesn't want you to understand...I mean I get her just fine." Christina
said. "Oh yeah? Care to explain her then?" Justin asked. "Hells to the
no! It's too complex for any male brain to comprehend. And no, it's not
PMS." Christina added, sensing the stupid answer Justin would come up
with. "Whatever. Anyway, it makes sense that you would get her better
than me...you two have been attached at the hip since you were like
12." Justin said rolling his eyes. Christina smiled. "Yeah. Well,
anyway, why don't we stop talking about Britney like she's not here,
yeah?" Christina said. Britney shot Christina a grateful smile.
Walking
the streets with you and your worn-out jeans / I can't help thinking
this is how it ought to be / Laughing on a park bench, thinking to
myself / Hey, isn't this easy?
"So, Chrissy, got yourself a
girlfriend yet?" Britney asked. "Nah..." Christina laughed. "Any
crushes?" Britney smiled. Christina sighed and looked at Britney. Her
blonde hair was tied up in a messy ponytail and she was wearing a white
t-shirt with jeans that she's had for like, 2 years and she had
artfully ripped them in places which made them look more fashionable.
Of course, only Britney could pull off looking fashionable on a lazy
Saturday. One of her arms were on the back of the park bench, her face
was turned to Christina, eargerly awaiting an answer. "No." Christina
answered finally, shaking her head, "Hmm...too bad." Britney whispered,
a flash of severe disappointment going through her eyes. Or maybe that
was just Christina's imagination.
And
you've got a smile that could light up this whole town / I haven't seen
it in a while since she brought you down / You say you're fine, I know
you better than that / Hey, what cha doing with a girl like that?
"Hey,
you've been smiling a lot today, that's nice to see for a change. Is
Justin still being an asshole?" Christina asked, switching the subject
from her love life. "He doesn't know that he's being an asshole. He
still thinks the flirting doesn't bother me...and really, it doesn't.
It's just him being a horny teenage boy." Britney said, forcing a
smile. "Brit, who are you trying to convince...me or you?" Christina
asked. "Look. It's not like he's gonna cheat on me. It's all innocent."
Britney said, getting angry. "I don't think he's going to cheat on you.
I just think you deserve better. Someone who wouldn't feel the need to
flirt constantly with every girl in a 5 mile radius. Someone who could
appreciate and understand you -" "What, someone like you?!" Britney
interrupted angrily. Christina went pale. "Yeah, like you fucking
didn't think I noticed you giving me all those creepy stares?! And then
you have the nerve to try and turn me against my boyfriend?! God, he
told me something like this was going to happen! I should've listened!
You're so..just..you know what?! Leave me the fuck alone!" Britney
yelled furiously, stomping off from the bench. Christina sat there. She
was shaking, completely pale, and her fists were clenched so tightly
her nails were digging into the palms of her hands drawing blood. She
looked like she was about to vomit, but really she was holding back
tears. Only one thought went through her mind. I'll kill him. I'll fucking kill him!
Oh
I remember you driving to my house in the middle of the night / I'm the
one who makes you laugh when you know you're 'bout to cry / And I know
your favourite songs and you tell me 'bout your dreams / Think I know
where you belong, think I know it's with me
Christina looked
at her alarm clock. It was 1 am, 2 weeks after the fight that she and
Britney got into. The phone was ringing. Christina didn't know who the
fuck was calling at this hour, the day before her Biology exam, but she
was about to rip them a new one. "I'm sorry...I'm soo fucking sorry
Chrissy...O-oh my g-god." Christina heard a female crying as she picked
up her phone. "Britney?" Christina said, heart racing. "What's wrong?"
"C-can I over?" Britney asked. "Well, as long as you're quiet enough to
not wake up my dogs. They might bite off your tit if you wake them at
this hour." Christina joked. Britney laughed reluctantly.
10 minutes
later, Britney was in Christina's room crying on her shoulder. "He
cheated on me..." Britney whispered. "What?!" Christina exclaimed. "He
cheated...on me." Britney said, pointing at herself. "I'm going to kill
him...I'm actually going
to fucking kill him." Christina realized. "No, no no! Don't please."
Britney said smiling. "Ok, but just for you." Christina said, also
smiling. "Oh, um by the way, I'm really sorry about what I said the
other day." Britney said shyly, her head down. "No, really, it's fine.
I completely understand." Christina said. "Um, just so you know, I know
it's not true." Britney said, looking into Christina's eyes. Christina
and Britney were sitting up next to each other with their backs against
the backboard of Christina's bed. One of Christina's arms were behind
Britney's back, the other across her stomach. Christina thought for a
few moments about how much she new about Britney. She new her dreams,
her favourite everything, her crushes, the bad things she's done, the
good things she's done, her problems, what makes her laugh, and
everything in between. Christina actually knew everything about
Britney, and Britney knew almost everything about her. Almost. The
'almost' in there bugged Christina. It felt unfair that she could know
everything about Britney, her deepest darkest secrets, and Britney
didn't know everything about her. Christina bit her lip and took a deep
breathe. "I'm not so sure." Christina whispered and closed her eyes.
"Wha- oh...um wow..that's...intense..." Britney giggled. "I'm sorry.."
Christina said. "No! Don't be, you can't help it. Besides, it doesn't
really bug me, I mean, if I ever am in need of some good ol' lez
lovin'..." Britney trailed off. "I'm definitely your girl!" Christina
laughed and winked. Britney started laughing too.
So maybe someday
the stars and the moon and the earth would align, on the same day when
lightening struck the same place twice, the day when they finally
stopped making the Halloween movies, Nick Carter ceased to be chubby, a
15 year-old became a superstar, and Micheal Jackson died (yeah, right!
Is he even human enough to die?). But when those things finally
happened (or at least three), Britney and Christina would definitely,
without a doubt, be together.
