Freckles in Odd Places

Albus Potter sat at Slytherin table, shocked at what happened. Never before had a Weasley relative been sorted into a house other than Gryffindor. Well, there was that one guy, what's-his-name, but nobody really talked about him. Oh god! Is that what's going to happen to me? No. Mum and dad would never let that happen.

"Hello, I'm George." the boy beside him said. George had black hair, black eyes, and very white skin.

"That's Jesse Polkiss, I met him on the train. Nice bloke, rather quiet though. Almost certainly Muggle-born. I hope Malfoy doesn't give him a hard time." George said, nicer than Albus would've thought a Slytherin could be. Jesse was pushing his food around his plate. He looked rather glum. Albus wondered whether his parents had given him a hard time about being a wizard. Jesse had short, light brown hair and amber eyes. Albus noticed his eyes were looking around the place with a sort of awe, going from the candles to the high table where two identical twins sat laughing with each other.

"I'm Albus, but you can call me Al. Most people do." Albus said turning back to George.

"So, you happy about being in Slytherin? I saw your brother yelling." George said, clearly amused by James' reaction.

"James sometimes isn't the sharpest spoon in the drawer if you know what I mean. I don't know how I feel about being in Slytherin." Albus explained with a smile on his face.

"Yeah. Well what I'm more worried about is why James, a boy with brown hair and eyes, had freckles all over his face." George said puzzled.

"It's the Weasley blood. He gets the eyes and the freckles from the Weasley side, and the hair from the Potter side." Albus explained laughing. During this conversation, Jesse straightened up.

"Wait, did you say Potter? As in Harry Potter?" Jesse asked looking at Albus.

"Yeah, he's my dad, why?" Albus asked the fellow Slytherin.

"My dad knew him." Jesse said shortly.

"How did your dad know Harry Potter? I thought you were Muggle-born." George asked leaning over Albus.

"Well, my dad knew his cousin. Harry Potter lived with him until he came of age or something." Jesse explained. George and Albus nodded and continued eating. Albus and George talked all through the feast about little things. Albus learned that very few Slytherin's were bad, most were into just politics. So those weren't evil. Well, depending on your definition of evil of course. But from what he had heard about the good Slytherin's, his Uncle Percy almost belonged there. Slytherin's were less uptight. Albus learned that every year on April Fools day and Halloween the Slytherin's would cause complete and total mayhem. Albus figured James would like that. Unfortunately, there were no Gryffindor's allowed. Albus also learned that Rose was near being correct. The Slytherin Common Room was the second largest Common Room in Hogwarts. George couldn't remember what the largest Common Room was. The feast was a good time for Albus. He made a friend and got more comfortable with the idea of being a Slytherin. He could go so far as to say that he couldn't imagine being in a different house. He could, but he wouldn't. He didn't need James and Uncle George to tease him any more than they had to.

Rose on the other hand was completely comfortable with being in Ravenclaw. She had already made three new friends, Jeffrey Davies, Jamie McGee, and Kathryn Hays. Everyone was very friendly to her, shaking her hand and welcoming her to Ravenclaw. Nobody asked why she wasn't in Gryffindor, and she was glad. Jeffrey Davies had asked her why she was a Weasley with red hair and no freckles, though. She thought it was because the Weasley blood mustn't have been strong enough in her. That should've also explained to anyone why she was in Ravenclaw not Gryffindor. When the feast ended, instead of a prefect assisting the first years to the Common Room, the new head of house came down.

"Hello, I am Professor Patil, I've come down to assist the first years to the Common Room. Yes I do know prefects usually take up the duty, but I've decided to show you first years a rather interesting alternate entrance that I found on my third year with the assistance of my Head of House. Now if the first years could please follow me, we'll be on our way."
